LIFE ECOGRANULARWATER projekti on talousvesiosioon (“Drinking water”) kytkeytyvä hanke, joka on hyväksytty “Environment and Resource Efficiency” fokusalueelle vuoden 2016 LIFE ohjelman haussa.

Hankkeen tavoitteena on demonstroida biologisia nitraattien, fosfaattien, torjunta-aineiden ja muiden haitta-aineiden poistotekniikoita pohjaveden käsittelyssä. Hankkeessa kehitetään kustannustehokas ratkaisu vesilaitoksille haitta-aineiden poistamiseksi.

Hankkeen toteuttavat yhteistyössä Granadan yliopisto (Espanja), Aalto-yliopisto (Suomi), Construcciones Otero Company (Espanja) sekä Provincial Council of Granada (Espanja), joka toimii hankkeen koordinaattorina.

Kehitetty teknologia asennetaan Granadan provinssissa sijaitsevaan Torre Cardelan kaupunkiin, jonka raakavesilähteenä toimivassa pohjavedessä on havaittu korkeita nitraattipitoisuuksia. Tällä hetkellä käytössä on käänteisosmoosilaitteisto, joka täyttää Espanjan kansallisten säädösten ja EU direktiivien (mm. juomavesidirektiivi) vaatimukset. Hanke on käynnistynyt 1.9.2017 ja se päättyy 31.10.2020.

Maatalouden liiallinen lannoitteiden ja torjunta-aineiden käyttö pilaa pohja- ja pintavesiä, mikä näkyy vesien nitraattipitoisuuden ja muiden haitta-aineiden pitoisuuksien kasvuna. Vuosina 2011-2015 kaksi ECOGRANULARWATER hankkeen osapuolta (Granadan yliopisto ja maakuntaliitto) toteuttivat EUTROMED LIFE –hankkeen kahden yrityksen kanssa (Paisajes del Sur ja Bonterra Ibérica). Hankkeessa kehitettiin mm. ennaltaehkäiseviä toimenpiteitä maatalouden typpikuormituksen hillitsemiseksi tavoitteena välttää vesien nitraattipitoisuuksien nousu. Hanke toimii esimerkkinä siitä, miten Granadan maakuntaliitto on pyrkinyt edistämään kestävää kehitystä erilaisissa projekteissa Granadan alueen kuntien tukemana. Lisätietoja www.eutromed.org

The Department of Microbiology of the UGR presented the progress of the LIFE Project at the FEMS Congress in Glasgow and at the SEFIN Congress in Madrid

Advance of the Study of the productive and non-productive activities of Andalusia, potential beneficiaries of the implementation of the LIFE ECOGRANULARWATER Technology

The implementation of the technology developed in this LIFE project in other municipalities of the EU will bring important benefits for the activities that consume more drinking water, whether productive or non-productive. The work carried out so far has made it possible to identify how the water supply is distributed among business activities, households and municipal public services and where the largest beneficiaries are concentrated according to their water consumption. The new technology developed will allow remove the nitrates and other pollutants in the groundwater using biological methods, at lower operating costs than current conventional processes, such as reverse osmosis, and generating a lower carbon

NETWORKING: LIFE MCUBO – minimize the environmental impact related to water management in the food industry

One of the challenges of the LIFE ECOGRANULARWATER project is to be able to transfer the technology proposed in the project to sectors other than the supply of drinking water to the population. One of these sectors is the food industry, which may sometimes be affected by the use of water polluted by nitrates and other substances. The LIFE MCUBO project, within of Water topic, acts precisely on the management of water in the food industry, trying to reduce the consumption of both water and energy.
